For actors who want to go deeper into the craft!
After years of training and decades of professional experience, I've come to the conclusion that most of the challenges and problems actors have with the work and thriving in the industry are a result of misinformation and misunderstandings. We're told to "Relax" but "Pick up the pace." "Raise the stakes" but "Less is more." "Bring the character to life" but "Be yourself." "Work on your craft" but "Don't act." "We love what you're doing but give us something different." And the list goes on and on. Being a working actor is fraught with contradictions and often the solution becomes the problem. My intention with this workshop is to clarify some of these areas and help the student obtain the proper level of work and perspective to gain and maintain a long-term career as a professional actor. This will be accomplished through a variety of acting techniques, exercises, intense scene study and discussion.
From Law and Order to Being Mary Jane. To Sleep with Anger to The Crow ll. Firefly to The Flash. Chicago PD to Bosch. Shameless, Good Trouble and Abbott Elementary. Richard's career has span decades and the list of movies and television shows he's appear in continues to grow. Trained in the theater at Broadway's Circle in the Square and one of the late great August Wilson's personal go-to actors, Richard starred in the world premiere production of Mr. Wilson's final play Radio Golf, originating the lead role of Harmond Wilkes. Known for his numerous intense and memorable performances, Richard brings with him a wealth of experience.
We're pleased to announce Casting Director Kara Sullivan will be joining us and assisting with the workshop. She has been the proud owner of Kara Sullivan Casting since 2003. With a diverse range of clients from all over the world and an award-winning pedigree, KSC works on features, short films, commercials, new media projects, and voice over work. She will lend the industry business insider perspective to the workshop.
Currently still a busy, working actor, Richard has designed his 6 week acting workshop as a summer acting intensive for acting students serious about the craft and desiring a deeper understanding of the work, their career and themselves.
The class will be limited to 20 students. Actors will be required to have a monologue memorized prior to the first day of class and a 2 person scene to submit for future assignment. All acting class members are encouraged to stay for the entirety of each class and to participate in discussions. In addition, actors may bring other material such as audition sides or any upcoming work they'd like help with to class.

In the event Richard has to miss a class for film work, he will reschedule the class or refund the students the percentage of the total of each class missed.
All the students taking the class will be actors serious about the craft and committed to treating the work as professionals.
There are many great acting teachers and casting directors teaching classes and there is much to gain from them all. But Richard is currently a working actor and, as such, fully understands the business and the craft from today's actor's perspective. He is able to explain career obstacles in a direct, no-nonsense fashion. And will get to the heart of what could be holding the you back from reaching your full potential.
